About this Course:

SAFETY

This course does not aim to provide students with all the knowledge necessary to work on hybrid or Electric vehicles. Smog Tech Institute warns technicians to strictly adhere to all published safety guidelines when working on or around hybrid and electric cars. The institute recommends a higher level of training than what this course offers to ensure safety. High-voltage systems are powerful and hazardous and can result in fatal accidents for technicians who do not have sufficient training.

Hybrids have become mainstream in the USA, and as the EPA mandates stricter gas mileage and emissions requirements, manufacturers are set to meet these demands. This course introduces students to a basic understanding of all the systems on hybrid vehicles and the fundamentals of the different types of hybrid designs such as Series, Parallel, and Series-Parallel. The course will strengthen students’ knowledge of generators, inverters, and converters and will provide a thorough understanding of the difference between high-voltage and low-voltage systems. Additionally, the course will cover regenerative braking systems and safety techniques that must be followed by all technicians working on or around hybrid electric vehicles.

The instructor boasts over 25 years of automotive industry experience, having served as a technical advisor and automotive instructor. Each chapter features comprehensive video presentations, concluding with assessments to evaluate student comprehension. Upon course completion, students must achieve a score of 70% or higher on the final assessment to obtain credit and proof of completion.
